They’re made with only a few high-quality ingredients and are sugar-free, so you won’t (or, at least, you’re less likely to) wake up with a huge headache. Here’s our favorite way to make a vodka soda, plus some tips for making the best beverage possible.

Ingredients Matter

Since there are so few ingredients—and not much for them to hide behind—their quality will really affect this co*cktail’s overall flavor. How to Make a Vodka Soda

This quick and easy co*cktail comes together with just a few ingredients. We’re using club soda, a carbonated water that has salt additives like baking soda or potassium bicarbonate. Club soda is slightly different from tonic water or soda water, so double check your can before pouring. You can learn about the difference between these three beverages here.

What You’ll Need:

  • Ice
  • 1½ ounce vodka, chilled
  • ½ an ounce lime juice
  • 4 ounces club soda, chilled
  • 1 lime wedge

Instructions

Step 1: Mix

Add some ice to a highball glass. Then, pour in your vodka, lime juice and soda water, gently mixing with a spoon to combine.

Step 2: Garnish

Pop the lime wedge on the rim of the glass and enjoy!

Editor’s tip: If you’re not a huge fan of lime, feel free to substitute lemon for the juice and wedge. Some bartenders actually favor lemon over lime in this co*cktail, and will serve it that way at their bar.
