Do I need a universal travel adapter? ›

Some countries use 110/120 volts, while others use 220/240 volts. If you don't use a converter, you could ruin your device, or even risk a fire. Do I need a travel adapter or converter? If your destination has a different prong type than your outlets at home, then you'll need an adapter.

The Apple World Travel Adapter Kit works with any Apple USB, USB-C, or MagSafe power adapter that has a removable AC wall adapter (also known as a duckhead). Just slide the duckhead off, then attach the adapter for your country or region.

You only need a converter if you're using a device that cannot convert 110V to 220V. Today's smartphones, tablets, and most devices are able to withstand both 110V and 220V electricity without damage because they've been manufactured as dual voltage appliances.

Avoid buying your adapter at the airport

If you use an Apple Charger, you just need a plug adapter to connect to the sockets in Europe. Apple chargers support universal voltages fro 100 to 240. If using a 3rd party charger make sure it supports the European voltage and just get a plug adapter.

In terms of power input and output they are the same. A travel adapter is usually made smaller for portability. However you may find that wall chargers are rated higher (in most cases) thus charge your phone faster while travel adapters are made to work with a high voltage range.
