JM Rehanding (JM500 and JM750 only)
Should the orientation of your JM Motor not align with the shutter you're installing it on, fret not. Ellard ensures seamless adaptability by designing all JM motors to facilitate rehanding, accommodating the specific side of the door they're destined for. Rehanding is a straightforward process involving the rotation of the chain mechanism by 180 degrees, effectively transitioning from left-handed to right-handed configurations (or vice versa) to suit the door's requirements.

What bracket pack do I need?
A bracket pack serves as a crucial component in the installation of JM motors, enabling the operation of rolling shutter doors through a drive chain and gearing system. Specifically designed to house the JM motor, the bracket offers ease and efficiency during installation onto the mounting plate. Beyond mere convenience, the bracket pack also plays a pivotal role in enhancing performance by providing gear reduction. This reduction effectively boosts torque output, ensuring the motor can effectively lift the weight of the door with ease.
JM150/ JM200- Bracket Pack 6
JM500- Bracket Pack 5 / Bracket Pack 8
Both the bracket pack 5 and the bracket pack 8 offer compatibility with the JM500 motor, but they differ in gear ratio size. The bracket pack 8 boasts a larger gear ratio, strategically engineered to deliver a notable 20% increase in torque compared to its counterpart, the bracket pack 5. This enhancement in torque makes the bracket pack 8 the preferred choice for installations featuring heavier doors, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in demanding settings.

Do I need to use a Bracket Pack at all?
No, compatibility concerns can be alleviated as long as the size of the chain drive chain matches the motor's gears, and the gear ratio is sufficient to generate the necessary torque for lifting the shutter.
What is the difference between the old-style and new-style JM motor?
Between 2018 to now, the JM motor underwent some minor developmental changes. One of these changes includes introducing a new style PCB with LED diagnostics and limit indicators.
There was also a change to the colour codes of the push button wiring. The current push button station has four coloured cables (yellow = stop, red = common, white = open, purple = close). The old-style JM motor used 7 core cables (red = stop, white = common, yellow = open, purple = close and grey, black, and orange as part of the retaining circuit).
How do I connect a solenoid to my JM motor?
The latest solenoids arrive equipped with a hardwired connection lead designed for seamless integration. These leads can be easily wired to terminals LS (Brown) N (Blue), and PE(Green/Yellow) for efficient operation.
In the event of upgrading from an older-style JM motor to a newer model, retaining the old-style solenoid is an option. However, to ensure compatibility, the connection lead from the old motor must be transferred to the new one. For detailed guidance on this process, refer to the provided image.
Is a JM motor just for fire doors?
A JM motor isn't limited solely to fire door applications; it can serve as a reliable motor for general roller shutters as well. However, it's imperative to factor in the duty rating of the JM motor, particularly concerning the frequency of usage. While perfectly suitable for low-use doors, it's essential to assess its capacity within the context of operational demands to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
